Pietro Mattioli works thematically, conceptually, many works are created over a longer period of time. Some works are subject to the time factor as part of the content, others contribute over the years to the process of the work.

Pietro Mattioli paints without painting, beyond the peinture, beyond the romantic myth of the artist’s personality, who still haunts our back heads. He bans its emblems, brush and expression, and turns to the materiality of the paint itself.

Pietro Mattioli (born 1957 in Zurich) attended the Kunstgewerbeschule Zurich and completed an apprenticeship as a photographer. He is curator of the “Space for Contemporary Swiss Photography” of the CoalMine Photogallery in Winterthur. Since 1994 he has been working at the Fotomuseum Winterthur, managing technology and collections, supervising the construction and design of exhibitions, and was co-curator of exhibitions.
